The wordpress community is becoming bigger and bigger. Its strenght is only one: freedom of software.
Matt Mullenweg thought it was about time to organize a foundation about it. Something that will ensure free access to all the projects (WordPress, WordCamp, and related trademarks), which are running under their support. To ensure that these projects will survive beyond the current human team and become a “table platform for web publishing for generations to come” (as they mention on their site.
Also the plan for this non-profit organization is also to educate the public about Wordpress and its related open source software.
