They say…
UGSMAG is an independent hip hop magazine. Headquarters have moved around over the years; originally based out of Edmonton, then moved onto Saskatoon, then Cincinnati for a couple years and now currently based out of Laredo, Texas. Our focus is on indie / underground hip hop from all around the world.
We say…
The first thing you notice is the overloaded with graphics, header section. Adding some vibrant colors, it puts you immediately into the hip-hop culture.
But let’s leave the styling and move into the layout and how they seem to structure their theme.
Looking at the home page, we see that the display their latest articles using blocks, containing an image as the background and all the texts, comment block and category teaser are floating above. Using this technique they manage to have a perfect alignment between their page elements and have a strict layout that blends well (and also keeps balance) with the freehand drawings of the background.
They also have a featured post on top of other posts. This block has double width than the others, and has the image and the texts separated.
This approach is also used in the category / archive pages.
